Projects :: Final Project
The Task:
Simply, you get to create your very own robot. It can be anything. However, the robot can't just be a simple design, like a car. It should be difficult to build, but worthwhile nonetheless. The handout says that you must submit a web site, but since most people couldn't do that you also have the option to submit a report instead (just like the other projects).
Our Design:
We have changed our robot design once again. Now, we are doing an automated factory robot sorter. Our robot will be able to sort bricks according to colour, and place them on a different conveyor belt for operators to quickly get at it. Click here to see our new robot. Note the immediate conveyor belt, thats the main one. The 2 in the background are the secondary conveyor belts. The main conveyor belt moves bricks down it, past a light sensor which detects what colour it is. If its 1 colour, its sent to one of the secondary conveyor belts, if its another, it goes to another conveyor belt. We plan to only use 2 colours. The bricks are moved to the secondary conveyor belts from the kicker in the 'kicker tower'.
There are still pictures of the old design, for historical purposes if you want to see them.
Progress:
We have made much progress since the beginning of this project(the new design). We've only been working on it for maybe a maximum of 5 periods, and all ready we have the conveyor belts done, the kicker done, and the light sensor is working and programmed. All that is left to do is to add the auto loader to the robot (see some prototypes built at home here), and add some more functionality to it. We only have 2 more classes, so we have to hurry it up a bit.
Additional Notes:
As stated above, you don't need to do a web site. You are also limited to the number of motors, push sensors, temperature sensors, etc. as stated in the handout. You can also only use 1 RCX. You can, however, have two groups design separate robots (they are marked independently) that could communicate to each other and do different things, but must be built as if you were just using your robot.
