Please note that this is a note from my notebook, I did not write this.
Robotics Project - The Castle Siege
Overview:
Teams will construct and program a robot of their choice which will launch objects into the air in an effort to overcome the evil empire housed behind the castle walls.
Specifics:
Teams must use a catapult to launch their objects. The catapult must remain behind the black firing line at all times.
Teams are allowed to fire up to six objects. The type of object is left up to individual teams but no objects can be used which may cause damage to the RCX.
Teams are allowed to have multiple programs stored in the RCX specific to accomplishing a particular task. Teams will be allowed to change the program in between shots if they desire.
All robots must initially start off the firing field and upon command proceed to their initial firing position. Teams may stay at their initial firing position or may reposition the robot for successive attempts.
Repositioning of the robot is allowed and even encouraged but this must be accomplished automatically. Teams may want to reposition the robot in order to obtain a superior firing angle. In order to assist in this task, teams will be provided with a piece of white bristle board which they may choose to mark up to aid the robot in its travels.
It is estimated that the project will cover 5 class periods. Definitive project completion and submission dates will be determined as class progress is monitored. Final submissions should include a title page, minimum 1 page summary, 1 picture of your completed robot and 1 picture of your robot during construction, and a copy of all programs.
Base Marking Scheme:
Teams that successfully fire 6 objects from one or two positions and submit their completed assignment on time according to the above directions will receive a minimum mark of 70%.
Teams that successfully fire 6 objects from three or more positions and submit their complete assignment on time according to the above directions will receive a minimum mark of 80%.
Bonus Marking Scheme:
All objects that are launched from the catapult are eligible for bonus points.
| Knocking over or removing a purple guard | 10 points |
| Knocking over the Castle Flag | 30 points |
| Bending the Castle Flag | 10 points |
| Firing an object through the Castle windows | 25 points |
| Removing the 'get away' wagon from the field of play | 40 points |
| Successful 'Bunker Shot' | 75 points |
| Shots that don't clear the Castle walls | -10 points |
Note that successful shots can't be repeated, e.x., multiple bunker shots.
Point total will be added up and divided by 10. This total will be added to your base mark in order to determine your overall mark.
